I just bought a 93 LX hatchback, I was told it has a tremec racing transmission, number one how can I tell it really is one, secondly this just started last night 1st and 3rd gear are grinding and popping out of gear when the clutch is released, the car has been doing fine, adjusted clutch today made no difference. If you hold 1st and 3rd firmly with your hand against the shifter there is no problem? I have an internal issue I am guessing? Let me know what you think, thanks!

sliders or shift dogs and or ring reatainers may be worn as for tranny type, post a pic and we can identify it

Thanks I figured it needed to come out, I am pretty decent mechanic is this a tough job to replace these items does it require specialty tools, when I get it out I will post a pic.

Do you have a recommendation on a high po rebuild kit?

call d and d performance they are t-5 and tremec pro's, that's where I get all my tranny parts, as far as difficulty, shouldn't be all that bad as long as you have basic hand tools such as punches, smap ring pliers and maybe a small press, hammers and wrenches too
