I can't remember exactly cause I only tried it once and a long time ago and we had to cut and weld a few things but someone who has tried it more recent than I may be able to enlighten you a little more

i found out that Colorado has an emissions center that try's to diagnose the problem for you after you have failed twice....so i made an appointment and took it down there this morning.....the guy spent an hour diagnosing it using a scan tool and emissions tester
...one other piece of information 33% of the hc failure was on decel ,49% accel, and 15% LCrse
...he said cylinder #6 was causing the misfire and the o2 sensor on the same bank was slow to switch but he said that the sensor was lot likely to be a problem
...his opinion was that it is being caused by an injector with a bad spray pattern and/or dirty or burnt valve

...so he said take it and have a motor vac treatment done
...if that doesn't doesn't work have a compression and leakdown test done (as mjr46 said)

question is will a simple compression test on that cylinder tell me if i have a burnt valve and if i do that before a motor vac will i learn anything about the problem?

thanks

compression test will show a leaky valve or a burnt one but if it had a burnt valve you'd have little or no compression on that cylinder and a dead misfire not a intermitent one........with misfires the first thing I always do is hook an occiliscope up to it to see if the miss is on the secondary ignition side or primary side, you could have a valve that sticks intermitently too

so i had the motorvac done today
the bad
...$180 (went to the shop voted #1 in the nation keller bros.because they used the patented motorvac solution and not bg ...they also did the tb cleaning )
...still has slight miss but seems to shake less
...falied emissions way worse
hc 4.6 to 12.1 failed
co 1.5 to 23.1 failed (passed before)
co2 446 to 434 passed
nox 1.6 to 1.17 passed
i hope that this is because the cleaner is still burning stuff off?
this was my last day for a free test so i decided to try it

good news ...
...runs alot smoother
...can break the tires loose from 1st to 2nd finally

any thoughts based on my emissions results?

what is a good vacuum for a stock 5.0 at a mile high? ...mine was 14" before and after

a guy at the emissions place said to put some denatured alcohol in the tank ...but also said "i didnt hear that from him" (before he seen the results he said how fun it was to drive and seemed confident it would pass)..i assume this is a bad idea what you think?
