T5 guys come inside!
Hi everyone, I took my LX to an 1/8th mile track over the weekend. My best time was an 8.06 at 85 mph, with a 1.79 60ft. But, my times were hurt with my tranny situation. The tranny doesnt feel like it "locks" into each gear when I shift, making it really hard to get the shifts right. Im using the short Hurst shifter and I thought maybe I had the stops set-up wrong so I removed them but it didnt help any. 2nd gear was the worst of them all and it will even kick out of gear now if I turn or hit a small bump. Is it too far gone to save? Im guessing yes, so my second question is, who's running a stock/rebuilt T5? What times are you running? How are you keeping it together? I know getting an aftermarket tranny is the best bet, but I really dont want to spend the money right now. Anyone?
Oh and here are a few pics:

I've run low 11's on a stock t-5 , and a rebuild kit should contain the stuff you need to fix current problem........key is with a t-5 is I rarely powershift anymore cause that really shortens a t-5's life and I don't launch with all I got, yeah I may leave a few tenths in the bag at the line but the cost of a new tranny is not worth .100 to .200 more et

my T5 is doing pretty good, i have the short throw kit also. I baby the car most of the time , but i do slam gears every once and awhile when needed, 3rd gear is always my problem. i ran mine down the 1/8th and it did good... MY tranny does whine a little bit when downshifting, i guess the age is catching up to it.

powershift= shift with foot to floor on the skinny pedal while usin a clutch to shift as fast as you can....more wear on motor and trans though...theres that one theory...for every action theres a re-action....

I ran a ford racing T-5Z for a couple seasons running 11.1, finally blew 3rd gear on a powershift at the track, and have since got some gears from astroperformance for the inside of the t-5. well spend $1200 in my eyes, my new motor made 559hp and 630 ft/lbs and it loves 5k rpm launches and powershifting.
