Default 5.0 running really rough TIPS

My 5.0 is having a pretty bad problem. I just bought it a few days ago and it runs ok but rough. When the car is idling it tends to die and will die sometimes on the road when the rpms are kinda low. Also it backfires when you rev it up. Im thinking the car needs a tune up but I was thinking that the timing belt needs adjusted. Any tips guys?

the timing CHAIN can't be adjusted. sounds like you need spark plugs, cap, etc. What have you done since you bought it.

edit: sorry the timing can be adjusted.

you have no timing belt, just a chain, I'd do a full on tune up, cap, rotor , wires and plugs and make sure you have no vaccum leaks and if it has a maf sensor , clean it

I know that a tune up and some new parts can work wonders on an engine. But can that really help improve on the fact that the car dies at idle? Any other ideas on that one?

you may have more than one problem, fix the most obvious stuff first like the rough run and go from there

A vacuum leak really did that to your car? Well Im taking the car in tomorrow to find out everything. So I hope its something small as a tune up.
