What Oil ?

The Torco oil for break in isn't an additive, it's engine oil designed specifically for breaking new engines in. So you use 5qts or whatever the capacity happens to be. It has increased additives to protect valvetrains, as well as extra detergents to clean out anything from the assembly and machining process that may still be in there.
And as for engines burning oil, that has more to do with the NOACK volatility level than the weight. High volatility oils evaporate sooner, causing more oil consumption and decreased viscosity. Since heavier weight oils have a higher viscosity to begin with, as they burn off they don't drop to the same viscosity as quickly. Good oils like Torco, Redline etc have much lower levels of volatility. They don't evaporate as quickly and they don't break down as quickly.

Depends on which stuff you get. The Torco TR-1 mineral is like $8 a quart, the SR-1 synthetic is around $10-11 a quart, and their uber high end racing SR-5 synthetic is $17.50 a quart. It's around 20-25% cheaper if you buy it by the 5 gallon pail.
