Couple of general 5.0L Q's
Hey guys, just doing some research on the 5.0L (1987- 1992) to see which year came with what, and what is the best year(s) for performance. Here is my questions:
when were forged pistons offered?
What was the compression ratio from 87-92?
When was the T-5 Transmission offered?
When was track- Lok and the 8.8 rear end offered?
I know some of them seem really stupid or easy, but it's bennificial for me to know the exact yr.s for when these parts were offered.
Thanks for your input

- Forged pistons were offered up until 92, they switched to hyper pistons in 93 (except for cobra I believe)
- Should be 8.5:1?
- T-5 was offer 87-93
- Trac-lok and 8.8 were offered all 87-93 in 5.0's

- Trac-lok and 8.8 were offered all 87-93 in 5.0's

additionally
1988 California cars had mass air meters made by Yamaha or Suzuki or something like that
1989 and up were factory equipped with mass air
1990-up airbags
personally I think the 89 cars are ideal

As for T5's, they were first put in, in '83 they were non world class. I believe that in '85 was when they put in the WC T5.
IMO, the '85's are best for modding for a few reasons - first and foremost its carbuerated cheap and easy to make power. It had the Ford Motorsport high effort 2.5 turn lock to lock rack. Had a HUGE front sway bar in relation to even the newer cars. Has almost all the creature comforts that the newer ones have and some that '90-'93 didnt have such as tilt wheel. It also has a vehicle status center that tells you when your low on brake fluid, gas washer fluid, or when your brake or taillights are out, etc, etc.
