500 hp?
Hey guys just wondering... i'm trying to eventually get to 500 hp. Would my stock 302 handle that? I was thinking of goin to a 331 but would it just be better if i started a engine build? buy a new 302 block and start from there? or could I get 500 (naturally aspired) from my stock engine... heavly modifying of course? I got the money to either get a block or do some heads and intake stuff... so any input would help! thanks

the only thing is I don't want any forced induction and I want it street legal... and in cali you can't turbo only supercharge I dunno I think the best bet would be find a solid block? suggestions on blocks? I want a solid one that can last for a while! lol

well Ford says yes the 302 block can hadle up to about 510 horsepower... in reality your safe around 400.... the block will hold 500 horsepower but dont be upset if something goes wrong... ive done my research because like you im building a 347 stroker with an 91 302 block so ive looked around at alot of different web sites and the set up i have planned will be 497 hp (i have the dyno 2000 program)

if u are really planning 500 hp out of a stock block with no power adders then you better have a deep wallet cause to get that much out of a 302 or a stroked 351 windsor is gonna cost an easy 6-10000 dollars
id say get a set of gt40 iron head a performer intake and supporting fuel mods and throw a v-1 s-trim with 10 lbs of boost and have a 450-500 rwhp sleeper with good street manners, driveability and decent on gas if you dont have a really heavy right foot.

The usual boltons & a power adder would get you there as long as none are acting as a bottleneck for the other. Your stock block should be fine providing you don't plan on turning high rpm. Some people I know that build their stock 302s or a stock block 351 will keep the rpm down to 5500 or 5000rpm max.

you can get a good 400hp out of a 302 with the right workings naturally aspirated. but to reach the 500 mark your gonna have to have some type of stroker kit. i like the 331 for the rod angle design. i have a friend currently pushing 535 hp on a 331 n/a
