Use electrical contact cleaner from your parts store. It shouldn't be more than $5. Spray out the entire MAF, including the two wires that hang down from the housing. But do not touch them. Then let it dry for a few minutes and you are ready to roll.

Cars been running like crap for quite a while and did what you said and its ready to roll. Thx a lot for the help. Question though, is it normal for radiator to blast out when you take off the throttle body? I see that it flows threw it but it was pouring out everywhere.

I use non-chlorinated brake cleaner... 2.99 a can, and it's one less can of "Specialty" cleaner I have to buy....

No need to buy the special cleaner... that's just marketing bs...

Pull the sensor from the housing, spray the wires down, let them dry, and throw it back together...

Don't over-oil the air filter.... that is how the wires get contaminated.

I dont think i would suggest doing this. You might screw up the mass air I'm afraid. You can use special maf cleaner like mjr46 said or what I use and it works good for any electrical contacts or anything electrical is rubbing alcohol the first aid kind. Just get like a q-tip and dip it in and gently go over the connector points and in the meter on the wires that hang down. It cleans it good and dries really fast aswell..

I've been using brake cleaner since 1996. Never had a sensor fail. In fact I still have the ORIGINAL stock sensor from my '90 GT.
Until a couple years ago, I don't remember ever seeing 'MAF Cleaner' in the parts stores. Maybe I just didn't see it?

What characteristics do you want from a MAF cleaner?
1. Strong solvent
2. Dries without residue
Brake cleaner does both of these things.

Next time you guys are in the parts store, read the label on Brake Cleaner and MAF Cleaner.
Same 'Active Ingredient'
Going by memory, so I may get this wrong.... Tetrachloroethylene ???

One thing I would NEVER do myself, is touch the wires with a Q-tip. Too much risk of messing up the elements, in my mind...

Actually,
I'm also fairly certain that most of the cleaners marketed as "Electrical Contact Cleaners" are the same as Brake Cleaner/MAF Cleaner...

Tetrachloroethylene
