Well, I figured I would update this now that I got it fixed. The problem ended up being that the 4th gear blocker had delaminated the friction material and it wouldn't slow down the gear to help it engage. So I put my old blocker back in from before I originally rebuilt it, replaced my 5th gear blocker with the original (it was grinding...I think I put the synco on backwards...held 2 years) and I put a new steel bearing retainer on the front, stuck it back in the car with some new Royal Purple ATF and I am back in business, it works great!

So I guess MJR wins the cookie on this one....thanks

i have faith that even if you grabbed the shifter with 2 hands and tried to force with all your might to get the tranny in reverse at 70mph it will not go in. just make a hell of a racket.

mythbusters tried it and all it did was grind like a ****.... they tried at 55mph or 60mph, they also threw an auto in reverse goin the same speed and the tranny just went to neutral, I was hoping something would go out or blow up but to no avail, stupid fail safes!!

Glad you got your's fixed!

im having a odd problem with my brand new T5

My brand new transmission from Promotion powertrain, Cobra T5, doesent want to shift into first when i first fire up the car after sitting.

i have to put it in reverse, back the car up a little, rock it forward, then it go's into first..... other time's it go's right in.

(almost always i cant go in first, second, or fifth. third and forth and reverse are fine???)

then when ever im getting on it pretty good, say 3rd or 4th gear, and try and ease it into 5th to start cruising 5th will grind almost always......

called promotion and they said it might be that the throwout bearing is installed wrong.

i know for a fact the clutch is adjusted right, so thats out the window.

im lost

I would be getting some warranty work on that bitch.

How do you know your clutch is right?
What type of fluid you have in there?
How many miles on it?

ive adjusted it 3 time's sence i put it in the car, got it where the clutch is engadging way up top, have a completely adjustable quadrant, and firewall adjuster.

regular ol' dexron 3/4

i think there's about 600-800 mile's on it.

sounds like an issue with blocker rings or the slider hubs, I ship that thing back to them and make them give you the warranty on it.

ya i just bought a reman super alloy t5 and it shifts like a charm, but it almost always grinds going into 5th there are 2 things that will stop it from grinding that is putting in the clutch and waiting 5 seconds or so or to double clutch it. im kinda lost on it, it also grinds if i try to go directly into reverse

do you guys think these are similar problems? all in speculation of course, i too am thinking im gonna make use of the warranty

A good tranny won't grind in forward gears, and most of these t5's will grind going into reverse because they aren't synconized...all you have to do to stop that is go 5th to reverse. Just be sure to be stoped before trying to put it in reverse.

Mine ground going into 5th also after I first rebuilt it, tore it apart and noticed that I may have put the synchronizer on backwards....easy to do. Anyway, I flipped it around to the proper way, put on a different blocker and no more grinding in 5th....something to think about, but if I had a warranty, I would use it...it shouldn't grind.
