Default 347 cam help

im building a 347 for drag racing. ive got a stock block 30 over, 347 street fighter chp, vic jr heads, vic jr intake, msd distributor. im not sure on the cam. i would like to go 6.80s to 7.00s in an 8th. i cant decide on what cam. i like the afm n91. i also like a few solid rollors from comp. does anybody have a setup like this, and what does it run? its going in an 89 mustang 2700 pounds with 4:11 gears and not sure on transmission. either a tko 500 or g-force or something like that.

Because you said "drag racing" I'm going to assume you are going with at least 12.00 to 1 compression ratio. There are cams that will get more RPM but the one I listed for you will make really good power from mid range right up to where the rods exit the block. While I don't want spin a 347 much over 6700, I personally like the Comp Cams XR280R Solid Roller in a 347 stock block.

Your set up is very much like mine other than mine is on the edge of pump gas and I went with a Hyd roller for street use. The XR280R pulls like crazy from 2500 to 6500. In a stock block it's the best off the shelf cam I've ever used in a 347. I was seriously considering this cam for my car I like it so much but I was trying to keep my car real streetable. The cam is a street mechanical roller but it take the stock block to it's limits. It's an older grind but I have yet to see any cam thats a wide ranging in power. With Off the shelf unported Victor Jrs I've seen this cam and combo pump out over 600 hp on pump gas (11.0 to 1) using a tight quench area. Depending on the elevation it should get you into the 6:30s-6:60s when you make it hook at 110mph plus.

the XR280R is about what i had in mind for a solid. the compression should be around 11.0 to 1. when i ordered the kit i had in mind to drive it on the street, and drag it. now i just wanna go fast and maby drive it to the track since its only about 10 mins away sometimes. is the n91 from anderson any better or wont there be a big diff?

6.8's - 7.0's in the 1/8th. with a 347, 2700'ish weight and those heads?...... check this driveable 302 with OOTB TFS-TW heads, 9.0 CR, EFI, OTS cam, 30# injectors, 75mm TB and 92mm MAF, 4.56 gears = http://videos.streetfire.net/video/M...-60_196621.htm .... wouldn't you be selling yourself short with more cubes?

I;ve never tried that cam and don't even know the specs so I can;t comment. With the XR280R it's still streetable. You have to limit the RPM with a 347 but you don't have to run as much gear as a 306. The XR280R really wakes up a 347 but if you plan on driving it on the street you may want to move into a hyd roller or Mechanical xolid flat tappet. Solid rollers use really high spring pressure so it will beat the lifters to death.
