DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT GEARS ARE IN MY STOCK 1988 GT 5.0? IF SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW!! AND I AM ALSO SHOPPING FOR TRACK GEARS AND WOULD APPRECIATE COMMENTS ON WHAT GEARS I SHOULD RUN.
For track, and if your going to drive it only sometimes, my advice would be to go with some 4.10s. Stock I think are 3.23, or maybe I'm thinking of somethign else.
the stocks are 3.27s for autos and 3.08 for manuals I believe, and with 4.10s on the highway in 5th youll be at like 3200 rpms, which is pretty high so you'll probably be able to watch the fuel gauge move towards E. So in essence you can drive on the highway and be able to "hold it" fine, but waste a lot of gas. First consider where you want to go with the project in the long run, granted it is never finished, but what is your goal for the car. If its a really fast drager thats semi-streetable, then go with 4.10s and a blower. If you want somethign you can to around with on the streets as well as the track, go with 3.73s. I'd prolly go with the 3.73s in my opinion, more guys seem to like it that way.
