I'm new to cars but that was the first project i took on, the second being carpet. So i'm not an expert but i had no trouble. Just took forever. The write up i used had me not remove the dash completely just tilt it so i could reach the case that holds the heater core. Then in the engine bay you loosen the a/c enough so you can slide the case that holds the heater core far enough to get the heater core out.(the a/c is connected to the case.) But you don't slide the a/c off all the way.(if you do you will discharge it) Not sure if that helps. Just how i did it. I couldn't see paying $300 to get it fixed when the part cost me $20

Here's the write up i used

ok sounds good. yah my i dont wanna mess my a/c up. and then have to convert it over. hey if i just bypass the heater core for now, will the defrost work? if i can just get it to defrost i can wait untill next month to do it. right now the inside of the windshield is all fogged up and the defrost wont help it, if i bypass it will it make any difference?

I had to replace mine back in the summer. It's really not a hard job. Its just time consuming. I had mine out and the new one back in, in about 3.5 hours. And I removed the dash.

Is the thing circled in red in this drain tube you speak of? I noticed some coolant coming from it while we were pulling my motor and this car has had heat issues in the past(before I bought it) Do these 2 things equal the need for a new core?

On an unrelated note, I can't wait to get in that engine bay and get it cleaned and painted, it looks disgusting right now.

Damn I was afraid you would say that, oh well though, I'm stripping the interior in the spring to do carpet, door panels, headliner, rear seat delete and other things so I guess I just have another thing to add to my list...

Most just drop the dash to get to the heater box.

I can do one in 2.5-3 hours but ive done quite a few.Id suggest you go ahead and pull the dash theres a lot of stuff that can get messed up trying to cut corners and belive me you only want to do it once.

Theyre still not as bad as the TORE-***'s do one of those.
