Default no power above 3000 rpm

I got this car wrecked. I just got it back together. It has new wires, plugs, dist., dist. cap & rotor. I removed the smog pump & vapor canister, plugged the vac. line. It revs fine out of gear & in 1st. 2nd & up under load-no power above 3000rpm. It's like it's hitting a rev limiter. Any help would be appreciated.

I do not have any instruction manuals of any kind. FYI, my first drive in this car it ran great pulled hard at all rpm's. The 2nd time is when this problem occured. I checked the plugs and they look clean.

check for a vacuum leak just to make sure you didnt miss anything. to check your timing you will need a timing light. you attach the wire loop around the cylinder 1 wire, hook up the positive and negative wires to the battery, pull the spout connector (two wires off the dizzy that go no where with a little connector on the end), fire the car up and point the light at the harmonic balancer pull the trigger and you will see numbers every time the light blinks which will be very fast.

To:calfroper-i;ll check the groungds. To:ttocs-good idea...not. Appreciate the humor though. To: HACHGT350-I'll check the vacum lines again. Thanks for the info. on checking the timing. I misunderstood the question, I know how to check timing (brain fart). I haven't worked on the car in several days. Thanks to all for the help/humor. I'll let you know my progress(if any)
