Default help me pick out cam and pistons

my buddy has a 97 4.6 puttin down like 290 at the wheels i gotta get my fox to beat him so heres what i need help with, i want to run dome top pistons prolly hypertuenic cuz i aint got forged money lol and im gonna wanna change the cam im lookin for the real choppy idle and alot of low end torque and mid range power like up to 5k after that i dont care im running a 650 edelbrock carb and a weiend stealth intake i no the easy things like 1.7 rockers and all the easy bolt on stuff i just need help selecting pistons and the cam because i need to make sure the dome pistons will have clearance and wont hit the heads and as for the cam my car is an auto so i dont want it to stall out and die when i put it in gear. thanks guys any links would be helpful and keep in mind im not a millionare

I ran KB .200 DOME PISTONS in my 85 with an old set up and a comp xe282 cam and afr 185 heads and LT headers and rpm air gap intake and 650 dp holley and it was running low 12's on an easy launch at 112 mph.....but you don't need dome pistons to beat your friend, a good set of flat tops will do

If you go with hyper's do get keith black. You should have your rotating assembly balanced or you if you have the money you should buy a new balanced rotating assembly.

I'd get a Trickflow Stg-1 cam. It's cheap($165) and sounds good, along with a strong powerband. Also, start looking for some used GT-40's or GT-40p's. You may find a good deal out there.

I'd advise to not to worry about outrunning your buddy and focus on collecting some good parts slowly that match and get ready for a good build. If you spend all your money just trying to outrun one person your haste will lead you in the wrong direction. Save your money and buy a matched head/cam and intake package and you should be able to take care of a 4.6 wothout much problem. My wifes 4.6 puts down 320 at the wheels and it only pulls off 13.20s. It won't take much to cut that.
