This is a stupid question and Im sure its been asked a 1000 times by other people but i can't find the answer. Can you put an F cam in a 94 without notching the pistons? How much lift can u go b4 u gotta do that?

yes it will work, but you need to check your piston to valve clearance.
the 94 and 95 computers are kinda finicky with cams too

im tired of the 94 95 misconseption with the computers >.< the computer will run fine as long as the tuner knows what hes doing, get a good custom chip and find a good tuner. alwas check PTV clearance but it should fit. theres no set lift that is required before notching as it has more variables then just lift to be considered.

my buddy put a F cam in a totally stock 94gt. on the dyno it lost 20 rwhp compared to the stock cam. however i dont think he ran both combinations at the track to see which ran faster before he sold it

LOL......kinda two contridictory statements above = tired of misconception and will run fine as long as tuner knows what he is doing................so which is it???........anyway to the OP the f-cam will fit in without notching I put a f-cam in a 92 no problem but check for ptv

its exactly that mj , if you get an in-experienced tuner you will have a mediocre tune and those are the exact people that started the 94-95 computer misconception(novice tuners), we have put much larger cams into these cars with nothing but a chip for tuning and no problems with tuning them so far(as long as you know what your doing tuning parameter wise).

I understand that...what I was asking more so was .....is the chip installed/tune done so it'll run/idle properly or more so for optimizing performance or both ??

Thanks you guys have been a ton of help. I can't wait to get a cam. Eventually im gonna pull the motor and put a nice top end on it and rebuild it with a goal of about 350 horse with another 100 horse from the bottle. Something I can run in the 12's with but my wife can drive to town in. All this comes after it graduates from daily driver to toy though.

depends on the cam and its idle quality really, some of the mild street or even street/strip cams will run with no tune or minimal tuning, the chip is great for performance after a cam upgrade and is much safer to run the chip with a custom tune then to run an un-tuned car after all the supporting mods are added etc.

You also need to upgrade the valve springs + check for the correct pushrod length that config requires. Upgrading the cam alone w/out replacing the "supporting cast" components could deteriorate stock performance rather than improve it. And no, SN95 EEC are not finicky with cams, just like fox EEC's, you only need to make sure there are no EEC failure codes present (aside EGR and smog system deletes) and set base idle correctly ..... BTSTDT in SN95's with B, E, X and Stg 1 cams.
