Question motor options

If all goes well, I will be picking up a 95 GT with a bad motor. They guy says the crank is broke. I have already read that the block will likely not be any good.
I am trying to decide on what to do motor wise. I know the cheapest route will be to replace the block/internals and put it all back together.
Here is what I am thinking about..
Building a strong 302 for supercharging later..looking for input on what internals to use from someone who has done it or firsthand knowledge..
Building a 331 stroker...again looking for advice from someone with experience or firsthand knowledge..

I have an 81 302 on hand so if the block is shot I have another block this is to be a second vehicle/toy..I have a vehicle to drive until I am finished with this..however I dont have a fortune to put into it either..

Fire away with suggestions..Thanks

A broke crank? Thats rare with a stock motor (at least to my ears). What kind of budget do you have? That will be the biggest thing in your build.

don't bother with a 331, if you decide to stroke it go 347, all the oil consumption and longevity concerns you've prolly heard about were worked out years ago. if you decide this route, fordstrokers.com is who your going to want to deal with.

how much power are you looking if you keep it 302 s/c? the stock blocks are only reliable to 450-500 hp. so if your looking for more than that look at the boss, dart, or world blocks. if its under that amount, i'd stick with a stock block, cast crank, and forged rods/pistons.

your 81 block you have is a non roller block so if you use it and use a roller cam you will have to buy conversion lifters they have link bars they are a lil pricy

Its just to drive around and play with now and then at the track..not really expecting to go more than 500..if I stay with the 302

I have read that the 331 was more reliable and would last longer..thanks for the info ..

Yeah..got me wondering myself. I will have 1,300 cash on hand after buying the car..I work overtime regularly so I usually have a little extra money now and then..again not in any hurry. I think I will get a stock motor just to drop in while I build what I want. Not in a hurry except to get something to keep from putting so many miles on my truck.

So with that being said. I would like to start off with the 1,300 getting some good internals and then buy the rest with overtime money I guess. Hope to stay under 3,000 total on the motor and have a reliable, quick street car.

if your budget is 1300 i'd try and find a bottom end that runs. pay maybe 3-400 for it. then buy forged rods/pistons for 6-700 and get the block bored out and rebuilt profesionally for the last bit. then you'd have a nice set-up that would be good for boost and reliable.

I'd find a explorer or mountaineer engine and throw a cam in it. The explorer/ mountaineers have gt40 or gt40p heads. Which is better that the mustang heads.
