Default is this a loc wire???

i have a set of edelbrock heads with this wire looking ring around the combustion chamber..heres a few pics..in the pic with the screwdriver its pointing to the split in the wire.. my next question is if it is locwire can it be replaced thanks

yea you can feel a groove. i just read an article in a mustang magazine about loc-wire and this looks like it how they describe it, but someone told me its not a loc wire

It does not look like a lock wire to me. I have these gaskets on my engine. The groove will be consistant and milled into the head. It will circle each chamber and be very noticeable.

All head gaskets have a fire ring around the chamber and will leave marks like you are pointing at in the pic.

it does circle each chamber and is noticeable, its harder to see in a picture then in person. im tkaing the heads to a mustang shop by my house to be looked at.

Does the groove appear to be machined into the head about a 1/16th of inch deep and wide?

You need to remember aluminum is softer that cast iron and the fire ring will leave and indention in the head a little when torqued down. Thus giving you the impression it has had a loc wire gasket installed.


The first picture i can see the groove is not uniform around the chamber. It also appears not to be machined into the head.

i took it to a shop today and confirmed it is a loc-wire. ill be picking up the correct gaskets this weekend
