I'm trying to find a good deal on a starter, but there's so many different ones out there. I have a stock starter and after i drive around for a while, turn the car off go to other places and all that again, it starts to have starting issues. Should i go with a higher torque rated one that is the same OE specifications or get a mini with high torque rating etc etc.

Also, what brand is good and also, even though the manufacturers of the mini starters say it fits like OE starters, is that actually true? They look quite a bit different when in comparison to the stock 5.0 starter.

i was having the same problem after i installed long tubes, i run the powermaster reduction starter and it solved all my problems, spins over faster, and even when i let it sit in the summer after a min or two it spins it right over. although a little pricy at over 200 bucks, but it fixed it so im happy, and yea it slid right in and was smaller than my factory 50 pound pos starter!

in 1992 a gear reduction starter was now offered, I upgraded to such on my 85 and all that is required is a little rewire as the selonoid is mounted on top of the starter in 92...I had the same issue with heat soak as my headers wrap around the starter, the gear reducion stock one cured issue

Just buy a stock replacement one from napa or carquest. You could upgrade to a gear reduction starter off of a 94-95 gt.
