Distributor Question...
I was planning on buying an MSD distributor to go along with my wires, box and blaster coil. but my neighbor, who used to build fox bodys, said that if i bought a stock 5.0 distributor, cleaned it up and removed the pick up coil from it, my MSD box and everything i have should wire up fine? has anyone heard of this?
i dont know the exact procedure because he told my stepdad that he could help me out with it but im curious as to anyone has heard of this or done anything like it?

you dont have to remove anything from a stock distributor to make the msd coil, box and wires work fine. i run my stock distributor and didnt change a thing. i wouldnt waste the money on a msd distributor. if your stock one works, use it

really? well i dont even have a stock one that came with my motor, but my local salvage yard has one for $35 from a 1990 Lincoln Town Car 5.0 so i was looking into that as opposed to the almost $300 id spend on an MSD one

I'm not sure that the 1990 Lincoln will work ...for starters, the gear fot the cam is not hardened on that dizzy...and I'm not sure the firing order is the same! ...best to get a Mustang Dizzy!

thanks for the update! i just called back the yard and told em to cancel it. good thing i checked the thread. hah thanks again

will a fuel injected dizzy work with a carburated engine? i want to buy a stock dizzy for my 302, and i know someone who has a few of them locally but he said theyre all for fuel injected motors. can i pick one up and use it with my motor?

One thing you have to consider is that most used distributors have an excess of 100,000 miles on them. Bushings wear and causes the dist to vibrate. If you the most out of your build make sure everything is right. Why cheap out the dist when you already have all the rest of the ignition. There is something to be said for a stabe ingniton system.

alrighty, i was checking out summit. im going to need one thats not "computer controlled capable" right? im assuming that means for a non EFI motor? $230 for a ready to run MSD dizzy. Portmasters got a point, why go cheap on the distributor.
