Default Just purchased a 5.0 EFI for my Classic

Hey all - hello and quick question!

I just purchased a 1990 5.0 EFI and AOD for my 1966 Mustang Coupe. The engine and transmission have about 90k miles on it. Both come with a six month warranty.

Upon receiving the engine and mounting in my classic, with 90,000 miles, anything I should do right away? I am told no issues, runs strong, etc and that these motors last for 200,000+ miles.

I figured you all would have some great recommendations. Can I feel comfortable in just dropping it in and run it? I understand the conversions I need to do, etc, but wondered at 90k miles what your thoughts are.

Thanks all!

I'd replace random gaskets, maybe timing chain and all that, and definately give it detailed cleaning. It probably won't need it, but why not do it while it's easiest to do? It'll save you ton of time and all. I'd strongly suggest replacing at least the bottom end gaskets, because those are hell to replace after install.

...Maybe you should change the real main seal for sure! ...inspect all other gaskets and maybe put on a new water pump...

^ i agree, a tuneup wouldnt hurt either. Plugs/ cap / rotor / Wires, a good oil change. These motors last forever if you care for it right. Are you planning on doing any mods?

Yes, I do want to do some mods to it, but will do so later. I want to see what this motor feels like in my '66, with the torque, it just might be enough!

Right now - I want to get this car running and then get it into paint. So sounds like I should be good to go! Water pump, timing chain, tune up and replace the rear main seal. As for the AOD, seems like just replace the filter and go.

I would buy an AODE valve body..those aod's have a weak *** OD band unless it has been replaced with a kevlar band....also this will give you more control of overdrive
