Bearings will clearly state on them if they are over sized or not. That means the crank will have material removed from the journal areas whether it be from rod or main journal. Look at the crank and make sure there are no visible ridges or gouge marks. If the bearings are down to a heavy copper look on the journal side, you will need to mic the crank and see if it needs turned or polished. More than likely, if it hasn't been beat on to bad, you will get away with a set of bearings. But the cylinders will more than likely need to be cleaned up and need to be bored.

I've done a few scuff and dip paint it blue call it new motors and they have lasted quite a while

first thing i would look for is the type of block...always look to see if it's an xxx block if it is than that block is a steal
