Default T5 Pilot Bearing Question

i have a 91 5.0 with a T5 and it has like a sleeve on the front input shaft of the transmission that slides into the pilot bearing . Its broken and lets the input shaft wobble inside the pilot bearing and makes a heck of a noise. I talked to 3-4 Transmission shops and they have never seen that kind of sleeve on a T5. My question to you is , Has any of you ran into this before and how do i fix this besides replacing with a Tremec 6 speed . Im on a low budget and im getting ready to be deployed to Iraq and i want to make sure the care is safe for my dad to drive while im gone. Please help .

Uhhh...I would say knock that pilot bearing out of there and slap a new one in, as far as a sleeve, never heard of it, but good luck, and be careful in the sand box.

Are you talking about the retainer that the t/o bearing rides on? It's bolted to the front of the tranny w/ 4 bolts?
