I have an auto 4 cylinder v8, and when I shift to double drive, it seems to be in neutral and just revs real fast, but doesn't seem to propel the car.

Also, when in second, at about 2,000 RPM's, it will make this awful clanking sound.

Any ideas?

od band is toast most likely.....clunk = check all mounts and u-joints or it may be internal in the trans, check fluid level also

How do I do all that? This is my first car, and since I live with my dad, I really never payed attention to what he was doing because he forced me to be interested.

The oil was low and I had to ask someone what kind it takes haha...

Is the transmission fluid on the right side, with the yellow handle?

I think it's on the passanger side, but you check it running as for the mounts, you get under the car and inspect them and I often use a pry bar to lightly lift up on them to see if they are broken.
