Question New Battery Question???

I just ordered Red Top Optima Battery, Top and Side Terminals, 800 Cold Cranking Amps, 10 in. x 6.875 in. x 7.813 in., Each 12 volt Optima. I am wondering if this battery is good for my 1991 stang. Is the crank enough and is there anything else I need to consider?

Thanks G

arent they like overly obese batteries? have you relocated the battery to take advantage to some of the weight?

a regular battery will do the job just fine..

and you should do some research on the optimas... now that you have a red top... DONT do a 3g alternator swap... otherwise you will start to kill the battery. The new optimas are garbage

Whats the big no-no about a 3G with an optima red top? This is the setup I was going to go with. What Battery do you suggest if I plan on a 3G alt upgrade? I dont mean to thread jack.

I have red tops in my wifes 03 Mustang, Our Caravan, My Truck and one will go in my Fox. I ran one trunk mounted in my last Chevelle and it spun a 540 cubic inch Big Block with 11.0-1 compression without an issue using a 150 amp alternator. I was a Optima dealer. I sold over 500 of them and had three returns. 2 of them were returned because they were just dead do to bad alternators and one had a loose post. I have a Blue Top in my boat as well. Best batteries I've seen. My wifes mustang and Our Caravan both have high amp alternators and never a momonts problem with them. Don't beleive everything you read on the interweb.

75/25 I made a hold down for the battery. OEM wont work. It was no big deal. I took some thread rod, a few washers and nuts and a short piece of aluminum over the battery and made a hold down in the OEM platic tray. I covered the threaded rod with some black shrink wrap and polished the plate and used some black nail polish over the nuts and it looks great. It's a show winner so it must be decent. Took me about an hour to build the hold down.
