Default HELP--Problems

Ok so after buying the car its ****ting out on me. It would idle fine and drive and then after it warmed up it would just lose power(fuel?) and would just die. Ok so a friend an i did this last night
REPLACED
-plugs( were plobly 21yrs old)
-thermo-sate
-waterpump
-main belt
-fuel filter.

OK so it ran perfect, untill i drove about 45min today. and the car just did the same thing. It starts idles ok runs fine then when it warms up the car sputters and dyes. after warming up the car will do 2 things

1) just loses power like its losing fuel becuase I can push the gas and it just kills it.

2) when i put it in drive in a parkin lot it drive( without touchin the gas pedal).
and it wants to kill itself and it will putter and kick up the RPM's to stay alive and will spudder out and die about a min later.

oh and the motor/car has 212K miles.

any ideas PLEASE???????? would it be egr???

run a koer test and look for codes.......ecm will throw a code if egr is malfunctioing to some extent, a koer test will run a egr system self test, but if it dies when you put it in gear, being an auto car I'd make sure there are no vaccum leaks and that IAC is clean and free of any carbon build up

did you replace plug wires,cap,rotor?
the egr may be plugged from carbon and needs cleaned..
with 200k plus I'm sure the intake track needs cleaned up..
I wondow if the 02's have ever been replaced or the cats?

ill try cleaning that stuff out and soaking the EGR in fuel over night. But the exhaust is cut right infront of all the cats...so its like its running off the headers.(is this bad)??

^^^egr is not the problem....a plugged egr would not cause your symptoms, if a egr were causing an issue, the pintle would have to be partially stuck open and at idle it would wanna stall and or run rough, a partially stuck open egr valve simulates a vaccum leak, so if and when you pull the valve and the pintle is seated with no carbon build up holding it open, then that is not the issue.....an egr can be tested on the car with a vaccum pump, when you open it, car should run rough or stall and return to normal once vaccum is released....furthermore if o2's were faulty and or contributing to the prob a simple koer test will confirm o2 operation, use the cars diagnostic ability before slapping parts based on potential inaccurate diagnosis' also as long as there are no exhaust leaks before the o2 sensors then running dumps at h-pipe ot open h-pipe is not gonna cause an issue per say.

ps....soaking the egr in gas is not a good idea, gas will potentially eat / deteriorate the rubber diaphram

since the exhaust is cut, do you still have the O2 sensors in the exhaust?

also, next time it dies out on you, you need to check for fuel and spark... dont just assume!

If you are losing spark, suspect the TFI module o the distributor
