Unhappy 94 Mustang GT problem with instrument panel lights.

I just posted about my rear lights on my 94 GT being out. I replaced the fuse and it fixed the problem. The lights on my instrument panel have been inop since I purchased the car. I put a new fuse in and I finally got some light on my instrument panel.....for about one minute and then the fuse blew again. The car has a cheap aftermarket stereo that isn't even secured properly so it just slides around. Could there be something with the wiring of the stereo that would cause the instrument panel lights to malfunction? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If they tried to originally wire in the dimming option from the radio to the cars wiring and it came loose it could cause the fuse to blow. I think they are orange wires on aftermarket stereos that are for the dimming option. I never use them I just cap them off and zip tie them together out of the way. Hope that helps.

I checked the orange wires and they aren't being used. I believe something to do with the stereo though is causing fuses to blow. I pulled the stereo out just a bit and I saw smoke (blown fuse). The fuse that went was the one which controlled the interior lights and the stereo....and oddly enough the speedometer. I replaced it and everything was fine.......still no luck with the dash lights. I believe once I get the money I'll just replace the stereo and have it professionally installed (the right way). Thanks for your help Chaoss.

Dont you just hate when people do a half *** job? I can relate. When i got my most recent project, if i pushed and held down the unlock button on the door, everysingle light in and on the car would turn on. Go figure. Rather than try to track down the multitude of wiring issues, i decided that im just going to start at sqaure one, and completely re wire the car. That way i know what was done, how it was done... and will help later on down the line if i should have another electrical issue!

Im in the same boat. The previouse owner of my car swapped from a turbo-4cyl to a v8 and left all the wiring harnesses under the hood and everything. Now it is up to me to go through and make sure everything is the way its supposed to be. Oh well, at least ill know its all right after Im done.
