thinking of rebuilding engine over summer?
hey guys,I've got a 95 svt cobra and I was thinking of rebuilding my engine over summer. Its got almost 140,000 so I'm sure its probably time.
Considering I've never rebuilt an engine I was thinking of buying an assembled short block because I don't want to mess anything up and really don't have the right tools for a full rebuild. plus less time of being without my car.
What I'm planning is getting a short block for around $600(is this a good price?) and having the heads checked out and rebuilt if needed. also I want to install a cam while its all apart and out of the car so if I ever decide to go with a full h/c/i I wont have to tear down the engine too far. I'm thinking of either the e303 or the trick flow stage 1. I've heard the e303 will work with the 1.7 roller rockers that came in the cobras but I don't know about the trick flow cam. I'm trying to avoid having to drop another $2-300 on rockers if I don't have to, to get 1.6 rr.
Does this sound like a good idea for a regular rebuild? If I'm missing anything please let me know.

sounds pretty good to me, your motor will still go for a long time, but might as well beef it up, my 94 gt had 152 when i sold it....but i do know about the cam, the E303 is a great one !!! i reccomend that one over any other one...ive had 2 of them in the cars and they are grEAT!!!

Any shortblock that only cost 600 dollar is a POS. Buy a solid shortbock thats well built and start from there. There are several good grinds from Comp that allow you to keep the 1.7's. Stay away from alphabet cams. A good shortblock starts in the +-2000 dollar range. 600 dollar shortblocks are better left for a work truck.

for 2 gs I could get a dss 347 stroker short block. all I want is a stock shortblock. where are some places I can get a decent stock shortblock.
also what comp cam would you recommend? I've heard they've had big problems with their extreme energy line of cams with a lot of valvtrain noise.

the cheapest one I found at chp was over $2000 I looked at the ford racing shortblocks and the best was $1200
I was thinking more like this one

anyone know if this would be good for my needs?
