The other day my car started overheating on the freeway and turning on the heater does not produce any heat, radiator levels are good. Am I right to assume there is air in the system?

have you noticed any loss of coolant??? and when it cooled down where was the level at??? if it's still full try bleeding the system......have you made any repairs on the cooling system lately that may have induced air into the system??

haven't made any repairs nor have i noticed any leakage. When i get some time i'm gonna investigate a little more and bleed the system. if i get bold i may even replace a few things (had the car for a few years with no repairs and who knows what the owner before me did or did not do)

if everything checks out, look for a restriction in the system, like maybe a clogged radiator, bad t-stat??

if you aren't getting any hot air, there's a good chance you are very very low on coolant. I personally would check that before i drive anywhere.
