buy a low-profile shaft or bang the header for clearance

Something has got to be up with it. I have Mac 1.750" Long Tubes with no steering shaft interference at all. I have solid motor mounts.

I have the stock steering shaft and the 1.750" headers with the 2.5" collector. The motor mounts I have are the cheap ones on ebay. I didn't give to much for them either. I have no rubbing issues at all. You need to check and see if your engine is sitting square in the cross member. I had a set of Mac 1.750" longtubes with the 3" collector on my old 85 GT with a stock steering shaft. I had stock mounts back then on that car and I had no rubbing issues. Something must not be right. Either your engine is sitting in there crooked or your motor mounts are shot.
