Default HELP Headers Glowing Red @ Idle?

Hello, Converted over to maf calibrated for 24#inj from sd rebuilt engine .30 over new pistons stock crank and rods fresh rebuilt e7te heads cold air intake bigger throttle body with edelbrock rpm perf. intake bbk shortie headers and exhaust. I finally put her back together and fired her up on the weekend and while she was sitting there @ idle checking for leaks I noticed the headers GLOWING RED and immediately shut her down. Does anyone know what I should do, or what should I start checking for?

That usually means a lean mixture.

I'd check the ignition timing and make sure you don't have any vaccum leaks, like at the throttle body or intake

Timing belt misaligned? ignition at the wrong times sounds like to me, careful could dominate some valves

I'd check O2 sensors too if everything else checks out... if the sensors are bad they wont relay to the computer that its running lean.. in your case really lean.. whats temp. gauge say??

Just went through this, your distributor is off, and your timing is retarded.

Do this, loosen slightly the distributor hold down nut, just enough so you can turn the distributor. Now with the car running turn it clockwise, and I bet you the car will start to sound better and the idle with pick up. If so, then it is exactly what I said.

The headers are red because the timing it retarded (late) so raw unburnt fuel is pouring down the headers and turning them red.

Check out this how-to:
