Default Not a mustang but 5.0L

Its in a 96 F-150. You can be driving down the road and from time to time it will stutter like its running out of fuel. I have put a fuel pressure gauge on it and monitored while driving and nothing changes while it is acting up. This i would think would rule out being fuel related. I have driven it about 200 miles and it has not occured again this is how intermitten it is. It is just driving me nuts. When it acts up it will do it constant for about a mile and clear up and not happen again for a few minutes then do it again on the same drive cycle. I have checked the maf for dirt and appears clean. I have even cleaned what was on it off and still does it from time to time.

Any ideas????????

Check the TFI Modual and look under the cap rotor for metal flakes.

When you say no codes, is this because you checked or the service light is not comming on?

Start checking the TFI module, distributor stator, and vanes rotor. Now if you have metal flakes in the distributor it will be from the stator/vanes rotor. Outside of this it will be hard to troubleshoot when the issue is not happening. And it seems too infrequent to be water in the fuel. Any backfiring through the intake?

Nope no backfires... It has me puzzled to no end. It just acts like you cut the fuel off to it when it acts up. It will spit and sputter then pick itself back up and run like a champ untill next time.

How many miles? It's possible that it could be injectors but there should be a lean indication from the computer. Have you pulled the plugs right after it has done this? If you have not you may want to.

it could be ignition related , like a bad stator in the dizzy, without having a portable occiliscope hooked up to monitor misfire on specific cylinders, you'll be shooting blind trying to locate the prob.
