Default Installing Rear Shocks, Need advice.

Hi guys,
I am currently in the middle of putting rear shocks in my 87 GT. One side came out just fine, but the other is giving me a hard time. The upper mounting nut is seized to the shock and when I go to loosen the nut, the whole shaft spins. What should I do, I do not have access to a torch or air tools. Would it make a difference if the car was on the ground as opposed to in the air?
Thanks.

Can you get vice grips or anything on to the tube down below?

Yea, I tried that, but it still keeps spinning. The vise grips I have at home are kinda crappy.

Did you try visegrips or a wrench on the top of the stud. There should be a flat place for you to grab the stud and then turn the nut.

Yea, its there. But the way that is sits, the trim around the hatch area is in the way to get a wrench on the nut. I dont really want to take the trim off, but it looks like I may go that route.

Vice grip will work best. I just had the same issue, after doing upper, lower rear control arms and the sway bar. I guess I was getting a lil tired and got careless. I forgot to tighten the nut on the shock. When I set the car down and realised I tightened it. Low and behold I cross threaded it and it siezed. I used a vice grip on the top of the shaft and was able to get it off.. Then I used a tap and die to re-thread the nut and shock shaft. r-einstalled and all is ok..

Yea, I managed to get the wrench in there. All is good, and the new shocks are on. Time to tackle the fronts next.
