89 fox SN95 5 lug swap
I just performed the 5 lug swap on my 1989 4 cyl car using spindles from a 95 SN95 car.
To my displeasure when I fitted them up the mounts for the strut were not the same I had to ream out the top strut bolt hole about 1/4" which wasn't that big a deal since I had the whole front end appart anyway.
The other fitment Issue I had was that the strut mounts on the spindles were just a shade under a 1/4" to narrow to mount to the struts so I had to fabricate a shim plate to cover that distance which wouldn't have been that bad but the only metal I had laying around was AR400 armor plate which is the biggest SOB to work with in the world save AR500.
I know someone is gonna ask why I used that metal to make the shims. Its because I used it to build a shooting backstop and had some left over.
Of course the tie rods need to be adjusted to get the correct alignment and the ball joints need to be replaced with 95 GT ones.
The only reason I post this is because the swap instructions said nothing about having to shim the strut mounts when using 95 spindles and I am wondering if I did something wrong. The struts are KYB gas GT2 struts.
