Trying to pick gears.

Trying to pick gears.
I have a 93 LX. It has about 420 horsepower and is used only for 1/8 mile racing. I was thinking about putting in 4.56. I have 3.73 gears in it now and I am only getting to the top of my 2nd gear(out of a 3 speed auto). My trap is 73 and ET is 9.18 consistantly. I have been told that I can up it to 4.56 gears will be fine. But some people are saying that is too steep. I just want to get all that I can out of my car. Just looking for some input.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I call a huge *** B.S. Flag on 420 hp with those ET and trap speed. My 1/8th mile times were 7.600 @ 90.85 MPH. I might be pushing 400+ at the crank, ain't no way your at that hp range. Looks more along the lines of a 275hp engine.

Hmm thats funny since I bought the ford racing crate motor with gt-40 heads rated at 345 hp and then had the heads ported and polished along with a new cam and a few other different things. Thank you to the person who did answer my actual question. If you pay attention the problem is my gear ratios. 3.73 final gear drives along with a very low transmission gear ratios. HP isn't the problem its getting it from the motor to the track. I still have full interior and low gears. I know what I have and if you don't believe me then thats your problem. I'm not going to be able to help myself at the track by lying about what I have in my car because I will then end up with advice that is not going to help me. I could probably break into the 8's with a higher trap but I haven't pushed the redline yet because I'm still breaking some stuff in.

And don't call BS if you don't even know what a trap is beacuse if you don't know that you wouldn't be able to tell if someone was lying or not. Which by the way is your speed crossing the finish line.
