Default Advancing Camshaft

When I degreed my cam when I built my engine. I want to say that it could've been advanced 2-4 degrees. The timing chain I have on there now can only have the same be straight up. I'm replacing the timing chain cover gasket and the parts store timing chain set just doesn't seem as tight or as high quality as it should be. I was on a budget then but now I'd like to get a quality timing set. But my real concern is advancing the cam. This should bring the power band up higher and maybe give the idle a bit more lope.

well then I'm sure you told him to get a good quality chain and that he needs to know the cam, then follow the events on the cam card with a degree wheel set up

I hope I know the cam...I installed it

But I did degree it then, yet was fuzzy on what it was since it was over three years ago, but port set me straight. Pun intended.

If you want power higher up in the rpm band you want to retard the cam timing.
