Default hesitation when giving gas

Ok my brother recently just replaced his upper intake manifold, new valve covers, replaced the seals on his headers, new 70mm tb and new 65 EGR vavle. Put it all together and it ran. Problem is when he jumps on it it'll start to go, then hesitate then go. He said today he unplugged the EGR valve and it's not hesitating anymore??? So what's with his EGR valve?

make sure there isn't carbon under the valve pintle partially holding it open, if so a simple clean up on it will suffice to cure the problem.

also another free fix if mjr's post is correct is to shave a millimeter off the pintle itself with a fine file.

I've recently been having this same problem with mine however I have not done any recent work to it aside from plugs, wires, etc. The car was sitting for a year and a half though, I'm interested to see if these tips work.

Ok, I am the brother with the problem. I replaced the EGR valve along with the EGR sensor. If I jump on the gas it will go and then suddenly let up and then go again. Through the gears it is same, shift and jump on it, it almost seems to think about it and then it will go. I am wondering if it could be an ignition problem. It has the original coil, could it be time for a change from the stock coil?

Could you have bumped the distributor and knocked the timing out? What is the timing at now? I just got mine back on the road after 2 years of sitting. I did complete gasket overhaul and this was a problem I had at the very end when putting it all back together. Got the timing back right, and running great now.

Should his timing need to be changed just because he added a new TB? I mean he idles at a higher RPM now because of what the TB is set at, but would that change his timing?

I did take the distributor cap off when doing the mods, could have hit it a few times might have done something to the timing. I will give this a try

Not necessarily changed, but if it was "bumped" out of whack so-to-speak, by checking the current timing during the problem should give an idea if this is even a possible solution.
