Default Idle Problems... (Yes I searched)

Hey I'm new here, I've read around this forum and many other forums but can't seem to figure out my problem. I bought the car already modded, I am unsure what modifications it has done to it, the buddy I bought it from was supposed to fax me a list but never did.

Anyhow, I know it has a set of Edelbrock Aluminum heads, unsure of what camshaft, and all the boltons. He said it put down around 325hp And also has a 100 shot zex kit on it.

I was at the track one day last summer and used the nitrous, it worked fine in second gear but when I used it in 3rd, it bogged out and I got a nitrous backfire up through the intake and blew the intake gasket. Well when we went to fix that, the bolts were all loose on one side. So we changed the intake gasket and went to start it up, it was idling at around 2000 rpms, so we adjusted the idle down and we got a surge. So I am unsure if the intake gasket was always leaking and they had to screw the idle screw in to get it to idle, it seems like that. But before this happened it ran beautifully, idled at 750rpms.

I checked pretty much everything I've read to check, I replaced the TPS sensor, I just don't want to go replacing stuff that ends up not being the problem. When it backfired it blew a couple holes in the stock airbox, would a couple small holes in that affect anything at idle? I've read about the cone filters causing idle problems.... I would just like some direction, I've been thinking the mass air sensor but don't really want to go buy one if there's nothing wrong with this.......

I'd perform a base idle reset procedure, you DO NOT adjust the idle by turning the throttle plate screw = no-no...the IAC is what controls idle......if the car is maf, THE no2 backfire could of damaged the maf or any of the tubing cominG from that to TB, ALSO make sure TB gasket wasn't blown out either

kind of sounds like a bad idle air control. On my 94 gt mine went out and it wanted to idle at like 2500 rpm until I replaced it.
