what's the price you can afford simpsonfan13? $500...would get you alot of hindsight

Then I will give you one that you can compare, my 92 is a 4 cyl conversion with stock 10 inch 4 cyl set up on the brakes with stock everything , right down to the napa pads and it has seen well over 200 passes and has trapped over 100mph , yes on stock brakes and with no fade, hitting hard on the brakes right after crossing the traps. I'm not saying what happened to you at an intersection didn't warrant your upgrade, but I gaurantee the demand on mine at the end of the 1320 was at a far greater speed that what you were travling at through that intersection and on top of that I only have 10 inch vs your 11 inch stock set up..........maybe I've been lucky but not all have had the issue you have had and until then it is just a genralization.......either way upgrading a brake system is never a bad idea so don't think I'm not advocating it, have the op define his budget and buy the most useful parts within those means, which for everyone is different....oh and I'm sure you saw Bernie's/pro50sc breaking into the 11's recently with his ride, and he has 100% stock brakes on it IIRC from the last time i worked on it with him and he traps around 117-118, I 've asked him a few times why he doesn't upgrade and I hope I quote him correctly but I believe he told me stopping has never been an issue, so some, win some loose......either way it appears the op does want improved performance so what you recommend grabbem for the price seems well inline

I had an issue with my brakes locking up but thats because the shoes were worn down to the metal, the calipers stuck, and the wheel cylinders leaked but thats because they are probably the factory stuff from 25+years ago. After replacing and adjusting they were awesome. All it takes is someone who knows what they are doing and the proper adjustments and stock brakes will work just fine. Yes they can be a hell of alot better but just like anything else if they are properly taken care of they will not let you down.

the question was "is it worth changing rotors"?....And your question to me was "WHY NOT"??? everything I replied to was on topic and in refrence to the worth, for the intended use a decent set of pads will suffice, just because you haven't tried it an had sucess doesn't mean others haven't suceeded where you failed......you aren't the first to dispute this point with me and you won't be the last naysayer I prove wrong in ref to my achievements.....thread done.

so back to topic...yes it is!..IN YOUR OPINION

you can read all the consumer reports, and how they rate/grade the brakes all we want.

it's how "you" feel how safe or not safe they are...compared to today's technology and standards to what was 25 yrs ago there is alway's room for improvement
