Default Sensor going to oil pan

Is this the oil level sensor?

Would this stop the car from starting if it was broken?

I've always had a on/off problem with the oil level guage not working. I thought it was the canister looking thing in the engine bay.

Tonight I was messing with the clutch and saw oil in the area and then saw the broken plug/sensor.

Is this something I can get from Pepboys or do I have to get it from the dealership?

Thanks in advance.

Mine leaks as well...I'm just gonna plug it since I check the oil every time I drive it anyway.

What is the part called? Low oil level sensor?

I tried asking at Pepboys but it doesn't look like they have it.

What is the size of the plug? Is it metric? I saw a 3/4 but the thread looked too course.

I don't have a NAPA near me. Would a plumbing plug from Home Depot work?
