Default 5.0 gods, I call upon thee....

I currently have an 03 GT but am looking to buy a fox body 5.0 project car.

I found an 87 GT vert with a clean body and engine, but the transmission is blown. The guy is asking $1500 but the price is somewhat negotiable (read $1200-$1300 ). I was reading that promotions sells rebuilt cobra T5's for about $700. So here's my questions.

1. Will a Cobra T5 be a direct bolt on to a 87 GT vert?
2. Is there anything about these transmissions that are known issues?
3. Is there any known issues with the 5.0 motors that were in the 87?
4. Any problems with these year cars that I should look for?

Any other advice would be great. Thank you almighty car gods. An offering of a Civic or two will be sacrificed to you tonight via my current GT

3, nothing out of the ordinary, the 5.0 is a tried true work horse if treated right

You could probably find a regular T5 out of a fox for cheaper than that, the 94/95s had longer input shafts so that's why they wont fit foxes.

input shaft is not hard to switch. i think no more than $100 for it if you find a decent trans from a 94 or 95. 700 is not a bad price for a t5 that u know was just rebuilt properly for piece of mind knowing it shouldnt break on u right away. i've had to go through 3 t5's before getting one that worked decent. doesnt downshift properly and has a hard time going into first from a stop but i can deal with it. check the tag on the t5 and cross reference it to what gear ratio it has, year of the vehicle, 8cyl vs 4cyl.

1. Will a Cobra T5 be a direct bolt on to a 87 GT vert? yes, as long as it's a 93, 94/95s have longer input shafts and will not work on a fox without modifications
2. Is there anything about these transmissions that are known issues? T-5 trannies are very suseptable to failing, which is why Ford caned them in 96, they're fine for a stock car, but if you abuse them or mod your car past the magic 300 ft lbs of torque number, you may run into issues
3. Is there any known issues with the 5.0 motors that were in the 87?Not many, the more common thing to keep in mind is that old cars have old car problems, if it hasn't been changed or upgraded yet, it's due to go out, so consider every sensor and part on the car fair game for changing due to wear, good note is they last a long time. Worst part on the fox stangs I'd have to say are the salt and pepper shakers (black white sensors near the back of the engine bay) that can cause the ignition system to fail because they don't seal very well, which lets dirt onto the sensors.
4. Any problems with these year cars that I should look for? Yes, wear on parts

Any other advice would be great. Thank you almighty car gods. An offering of a Civic or two will be sacrificed to you tonight via my current GT
I've bolded my answers.
