Speedo gear?
I am getting 3 73 gears for my stang and I cant seem to find what tooth speedo gear I need? I looked on the ford chart and appearently 90-93 are diff then earlier ones and the chart only goes up to 3 55. Its a 1990 mustang with a t5. I was thinking 21 tooth? But not to sure

Check with late model restoration.
The 3.55 gear is what most people use, but it is not the exact calibration. The reason most people use this is because it only requires changing the gear on the speedo cable. It gets you "close enough" to 3.73 calibration.
If you want to do it right, like what I did, it requires pulling the transmission out and changing both the drive gear inside the transmission(from a 6 tooth to a 7 tooth) and also changing the gear on the speedo cable.
If you ever replace your transmission, you will have to pull the old and new apart and swap this 7 tooth gear from your current to future transmission. Luckily my transmission was a brand new tremec t-5 and it will be in there for long time.
Like I said, check late model resto, they sell both of these gears and their retaining clips in a 4 piece kit. The speedo drive gear is yellow and the speedo cable gear is red.

That is the link to the kit, and like I said it requires taking apart the transmission, so like most people you may opt to go for the 3.55 "close enough" gear.

Ahhh gotcha so that whole kit is if i wanted to get the mechanic to pull the tranny out? How much labour would that cost? I think im just gonna get the 3 55 speedo gear, will this make my speedo seem faster or slower and by how off will it be? Also wont the odometer be affected also?

I pulled my tranny out myself, gave it to my favorite mechanic(only because I don't feel like learning about tranmission internals) and for a small labor fee, he installed the drive gear for me. My tremec doesnt use gaskets, rather tremec used that red gasket maker material instead.... But, when I got my trans back I installed it myself.

You can change the gear yourself, takes all of 5 minutes, if that. Jack the car up, use a screw driver to pull off the retainer, unscrew the gear, take out the old gear, put in the new one, slide back and screw into the tranny, lower the car, job done.

I run a 23tooth speedo gear on my 93 w/3:73s t5 (believe it was white), Checked the speedo against my nav. system and it's right on. I've heard the 23 tooth gear will not last long , but my car is just a weekend cruiser and I have had it installed for 3 seasons now.
