so the gear is stripped or the rollers have just crumbled? have you actually torn it down.
when i got my 91 the rollers need to be replaced they are on the HELP aisle at autozone etc

more than likely its just the rollers if you can hear the motor running
the rollers are kinda tricky to install you sorta angle them so the gear can be put back in.
you just gotta clean out all the old grease and repack it the grease will hold the rollers angled in place
like a 4$ fix
