Default 88 hatchback

hey guys, just picked up a mint 88 hatch. auto, has 62k on it, bone stock. i will post pics up soon. if i remember correctly, this car falls into the year where they had forged internals? i also believe this year didnt have maf? and will i hurt it if i switch it to synthetic oil? any other advice would be great. thanks!!!!!!!!!

Yup, I believe they switched to the hyper pistons in '93. No, that car is speed density, unless it was originally sold in California. And the synthetic oil will bring up a debate depending on who you are asking. If its running fine now on conventional, why fix what ain't broke?

'89-'92 had the forged pistons. '87, '88 and '93 had non forged i thought....either way, like ^ said, unless its a California car, its speed density. a MAF conversion is @ $400 i think. congrats on the purchase.

so i plan on going with either a tubo set up, or stickin with nitrous which is what i know best. i guess i will just keep the regular valvoline its using like you say. so whats the pros vs cons on converting to maf????????? pics will be up very soon

Forged pistons '87-92 5L Mustang...only the Mustangs in CA had mass-air from the factory in 1988...Put some Royal Purple 10w30 in the Fox!

I've heard that switching from conventional to synthetic can cause leaks. I'm not sure if this is true but when I did the first oil change on my 89 gt with mobil 1 the rear main started leaking along with everything else. it might have just been coincidence though.

well i guess first things first. i need to figure out where i want to start with this car, and i need to make up my mind about the maf vs speed density. i wonder how many guys on here make decent power, and have no problem with the sd???
