Default oil level

my check oil light came on while i was driving today. checked the stick and it said it was 1 quart low. so i added a court and it was just above the crosshatch at that point. the light went out and i went home. e7se is the casting number on the dipstick.. which comes out to be a 87 tbird?????? heres where im boggled. i decided to change the oil so i could mark where its supposed to be and i drained out only 2 quarts...plus filter. i put 2 quarts in after it was empty and it showed full on the dipstick. 5 quarts showed about 3 inches above that. i dont want this to ruin my motor. what should i do.

Fill with 5 quarts find where oil goes on dipstick and etch a mark there. Or get a correct dipstick.
