Rear end clunk noise. Please help

You are going to have to look in there. Same thing was happening to my 83'. Ended up being the carrier pin being going to hell, moving inside of there. I didnt know how the rear end held up so long in mine.

The back lash checked with holding the pinion and moving the ring gear back and forth should be around .010 checked with a dial indicator meaning you should see very little movement between the ring and pinion.As stated though most wear will probably be in the cross pin,spider and axle.
