Default starter?

I got a 93 lx 5.0 board .30 over 289 heads voodoo cam. the starter wont turn it over to much compression for the stock starter? what starter to use?

thanks I had a newer mini starter it worked for a while then it went up in smoke. i was thinking summit but they arent cheap

your compression shouldn't be all that bad as to do that or cause you probs unless of course you have dome pistons

I have flat tops the starter did fine with no plugs in it i put them back in it turned over maby two times and quit

how's the battery?? selonoid??? connections?? cable??, before condeming the starter, I'd confirm a full 12 v is reaching the starter..ie, make sure voltage drop is not ocurring

Every thing is new i checked every thing with the volt meter. i went to advance to day and go a new std starter and it dident last 5min befor it got hot and wouldent do any thing so i took it back and started lookn for one in summit

if the starter gets hot 1 of two things, high resistance in a connection, causing excessive current draw, or heat from the headers/ exhaust is causing the windings to get hot which hampers current flow

the headers are very close but i know it's not that it wont turn over long enuf to start haha
