Default starter gear

just took a look at my starter, since its been making that grinding noise when starting. there looks to be about 3/4 of gear on the starter with an angle at the end. the starter seems to turn everytime but the gear is obviously getting pretty worn. can the gear be replaced? i've spoke with autozone and they dont seem to have anything. if it can, do you know where to get one? stock starter. starter can be replaced (of course) but budget. i'm waiting for that lotto ticket that i never play to win.

time for a new one... inspect your flywheel/flexplate while the starter is out

I know a place that can get the gears... but you are probably just better off getting a new starter..

how are the valucraft or duralast starts from autozone? good quality? price wise, its about half from what i'm seeing available on summit. but am i going to get what i pay for. although $65 - $90 for a starter seems kinda enough for me.

valuecraft is garbage... buy a NEW starter, not a reman... and make sure it has a LIFETIME warranty

i wouldnt go with the valucraft. i like staying inexpensive but not the cheapest. usually midgrade. the duralast gold has autozones limited lifetime so as long as autozone stays around, i'll have a duralast starter. they have the gear too (starter drive) $10. i may try that. as its easier to spend 10 then 90.
