Default Motor Teardown Results

Hey guys just got done tearing apart my motor, was wanting to see what some of you thought might have happened. Before i tore the motor apart i thought it was just rings but once i found the problem in the pictures it looks like a burnt a hole through the piston.

What would have caused this?

Also ive got some pictures of my head it looks like it should be fine as the piece of the ring that burnt off and bounced around didnt hit the valves on the head what do you all think?

Kinda new to posting pics and resizing the whole picture and all that but heres a link to my album on here that i uploaded the photos too https://mustangforums.com/forum/memb...-teardown.html

Thanks

The cylinder wall that piston came out of has a little scaring in a spot at the top of the cylinder.

Yea i was spraying it when this happened, i mainly blame myself i sprayed it twice back to back and the last run when this happened i tried to keep it going in 5th, even tho ive got a window switch and all that to were it doesnt engage until 3k rpm still wasnt a good idea, 190k on this motor also.

My guess is your mixture leaned out in that cylinder... could be that injector is bad.
Or you had a cracked ring in that cylinder and the hot gases acted like an oxy-acetalene torch and once it found a path by the piston it just kept burning it away until you ended up with what you have.
Nitrous will ALWAYS find the weakest link in an engine. Your biggest mistake was staying in it once you knew there was a problem... not that it would've avoided the damage because it was probably already done before you noticed something was wrong... you just made it worse.
Looks like you need a new piston, make sure the cylinder wall is honed before you put it back together... and double check the injector for peace of mind.

Its a wet plate kit.

And once it happened i didnt keep going it really wasnt that bad when it did, just a backfire of sorts then it just wasnt running the same like it was missing and after that i just limped it home. Drove it maybe 25 miles after this happened back to the garage i keep it in.

Yea sprayed it in overdrive, 4th gear tops out way to soon for my liking 3.73 gears ill either be switching those out for the new motor or if i build the new motor for 7k RPM it might be enough for the gear.

Any of you see the pic of the head yet? Does it look ok?
