Default Problem with temp and idle

I replaced my temp sensor awhile back. My car has always ran semi hot so now that it lately has been running cold it kinda threw me off. Then i noticed that my idle wouldnt drop below around 2k after running for awhile so figured the computer thaught my motor was still cold and trying to heat it up. I am going to replace that sensor again tomorrow and am hoping that is the problem but i am told that the sensor and my gauge(which is stock) run off two different sensors.

Anyone have any ideas what my problem could be?

Sounds like it might be your Idle Air Control if your car doesn't want to idle lower than 2k rpm. U can try cleaning it or just replace it. As far as the temp gauge goes, it is never all that accurate and a weak connection can make it worse. If your worried about the temp, you would probably be better off just getting an aftermarket coolant/water temp gauge.
