What is the best cam with the stock bottom end that can still pass CA emissons?

Default What is the best cam with the stock bottom end that can still pass CA emissons?

Considering getting a set of AFR 165s like I had on my old car, but I want to get a better cam than I had before. Just had the E303 before and just want a cam that is more modern and with a more significant power increase. I know the stock bottom end only supports up to about 550 lift, and I have to also consider that the cobra has 1.7 rockers. What is the most I can run as far as intake and exhaust durations goes, as well as, the lobe separation angle?

the problem you may run into is finding one that carries a C.A.R.B. number, I know you can get a custom one made that'll exceed the E cam in more ways than one but not sure on Cali law and the C.A.R.B. LABEL it'll need??

Thanks, that is pretty sweet that they actually have some with carb numbers. Do you know if all the specs on those are with 1.7 rockers? One of the three in the notes says it is on summit, but I don't know about the other two.

I'm running the Powermax 2031(used to be called Compucam). It's a 1.7 ratio cam with a CARB EO #. I got it when I built my 302 because it worked with the gearing I had and I was on a tight budget. Otherwise I think Steeda has some cams that are CARB legal.

Here in Texas, we have adopted the same stringent California emissions. Running pig rich, with a Trickflow Stg-1 cam, Vortech SC and all the other induction pieces I passed TX emissions with flying colors. The TFS-1 does not carry a C.A.R.B exempt. But since it is a mild cam and since you have cats, I doubt the emissions police will notice. .499"/.510" lift(1.6 rockers though).

True, they're not gonna know what cam is in it.

Yeah, but you could always says it's blah blah cam with this CARB EO. As long as it passes emissions they'd never know the difference. The Crane cam I run has a CARB EO# and if you set the base timing to 10 it has a nice little lope to it. I have mine at around 15 and though it idles pretty smooth, you can still hear the cam.

Um, not that I'm advocating lying, because I'm not. Just making a point is all.... :-\
